Party on Phi Phi!

After four weeks of intense studies it seemed like a good idea to check out one of the most visited islands: Phi Phi. We traveled light with just a little bag each but unlike Leo and his friends in The Beach we decided to take the fairly well packed ferry.

The main port of the island, Tonsai, welcomes you with hundreds of boats and that's when I realized for the first time that we won't get much sleep here. Young and beautiful people everywhere wandering through the little streets of this Thai Disney village. No matter where you turn, you'll be confronted with jewelry, clothes, diving schools, ATMs and pancake stalls. Eventually you'll hear someone yelling out: "Phi, phi, phi, phi!" That's how the bicyclists make you step aside without using the bell all the time. For the next 48 hours we did nothing but swimming, eating, partying and sleeping. Well, at least that's what I did. Phi Phi gehoert zu den meist besuchten Inseln Thailands, aber nach vier Wochen intensiven Lernens war ein Trip dorthin die richtige Wahl. Wir reisten mit leichtem Gepaeck aber im Gegensatz zu Leo und seinen Freunden aus The Beach entschieden wir uns fuer die gut gefuellte Faehre.

Der Hafen Tonsai heisst einen mit Hunderten von Booten willkommen. In diesem Moment wurde mir klar: wir werden hier nicht viel Schlaf bekommen. Junge, huebsche Menschen soweit das Auge reicht und alle wandern sie durch diese thailaendische Version eines Disney Dorfes. In jeder Gasse findet man die gleichen Staende: Schmuck, Klamotten, Tauchschulen, Geldautomaten und Pfannkuchen. Irgendwann hoert man dann jemanden, "Phi, phi, phi, phi!" rufen und dann sollte man besser ausweichen, wenn man nicht von einem Fahrradfahrer angerempelt werden will. Die folgenden 48 Stunden machten wir nichts ausser Schwimmen, Essen, Party und Schlafen. Nun, zumindest ich tat nichts anderes. Dan und unser Freund Brian dagegen versuchten sich im artistischen Spiel mit dem Feuer. Es gibt drei Videos, aber nur eines (mit Brian) ist bislang online. Viel Spass!

Hello teacher!!!

Time passes quickly when you're busy and especially when you're happy as well. The last four weeks have been my best learning experience ever and I may happily announce that I am a certified ESL teacher now, entitled to teach English as a second language.

But let's not talk about school right now. So, Phuket was my home for the last weeks. It's an island in the south west of Thailand and as we are staying in Phuket town (instead of staying directly at the beach), we usually don't see many tourists around here. Of course there are quite some expats but that's exactly what I'll be as soon as I'll have a job. However, being a full time student didn't leave that much room for activities but so far I have seen and touched an elephant, Dan has eaten insects, we discovered a new way of producing ice cream, visited infamous Patong beach, marveled at the Big Buddha Statue and checked out some nice beaches. Tomorrow we'll go to Phi Phi island to hang out with the rest of the teacher gang (that's the island where Leonardo Di Caprio shot the movie The Beach). We will be travelling for a while now in order to get to know Thailand better. Enjoy the show!

Die Zeit rast nur so dahin, wenn man beschaeftigt und gluecklich ist. Die letzten vier Wochen ueber hatte ich die beste Schulzeit meines Lebens und ich darf verkuenden, dass ich nun eine zertifizierte ESL Lehrerin bin und Englisch als Fremdsprache unterrichten darf.

Aber ich will nicht nur von der Schule berichten. Phuket war meine Heimat fuer die letzten Wochen. Die Insel Phuket liegt im Suedwesten Thailands und da wir in Phuket Stadt residieren, anstatt in den Strandorten, bekommen wir relativ wenig Touristen zu Gesicht. Leider hatte ich waehrend meines Vollzeitstudiums kaum Zeit um intensiv auf Entdeckungstour zu gehen, aber immerhin haben wir bereits Elefanten gesehen und beruehrt, Insekten gegessen, eine neue Art der Speiseeisherstellung entdeckt, den beruechtigten Patong beach erkundet, die grosse Buddhastatue bewundert und einige Straende besucht. Morgen geht es mit dem Boot nach Phi Phi, wo wir mit den restlichen frisch gebackenen Lehrern entspannen wollen. Das ist uebrigens die Insel auf der The Beach mit Leonardo Di Caprio gedreht wurde. Wir werden uns demnaechst auf Thailandtour befinden, bis dahin...geniesst die Show.
